Cult of the Lamb revealed its latest expansion, Woolhaven, at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, and it’s definitely not a sex update like its previous significant release – in fact, it’s a warm turn for the roguelike that embraces some substantial Stardew Valley essence.
Well, mostly warm, at any rate. As publisher Devolver Digital outlines in a recent online announcement regarding the forthcoming DLC, it’s enormous. “Cult of the Lamb: Woolhaven is a substantial expansion to the cherished cult sim and introduces RANCHING into the equation,” proclaims the studio. It then proceeds to reveal some of what we can look forward to in Woolhaven’s thrilling launch: “Construct your ranch. Select your creatures. Raise them, breed them, shear them and… slaughter them.”

Indeed, you read that accurately – although we’re getting the entire soothing ranching aspect, Cult of the Lamb is Cult of the Lamb, after all, which implies that some sinister themes must be woven in somewhere (as charming as it may appear on the surface, much like the primary game itself). The new expansion’s official Steam page delves into further details about Woolhaven, describing it as a “fallen town” to reconstruct and rejuvenate, all while combating hunger and frigid weather.
The “fallen town” element, combined with breeding and ranching animals, certainly feels like a theme I’d anticipate from a comforting farming sim, but there’s evidently an additional layer of difficulty to navigate as well. It’s nearly reminiscent of older titles like Shepherd’s Crossing – one that I still engage with on my DS to this day, featuring its distinctive combination of your typical farming mechanics together with some gloomier facets, much like Woolhaven, such as slaughtering.
Hopefully, Woolhaven achieves that equilibrium just as effectively when it launches sometime next year. For now, if you’re as intrigued by the new DLC as I am, you can add it to your wishlist on Steam and follow its developmental journey prior to release.
