A Minecraft Movie is packed with lore from the Mojang Studios game, however director Jared Hess mentions that it was intended to feature several additional references that unfortunately had to be trimmed due to scheduling issues, including a design contribution from one of the most popular Minecraft YouTubers.

“Yes, we had a lot of entertaining sequences we wanted to include,” Hess stated to TechRadar. “Mumbo Jumbo, who is a Redstone expert, was developing a fantastic scene that we simply couldn’t execute.” Mumbo Jumbo stands out as one of the most prominent creators within the Minecraft community, renowned for his inventive constructions on the Hermitcraft server.

“We conceptualized a scene involving a colossal Piglin robot, which resembled a Trojan horse crafted with Redstone,” Hess elaborated. “It was a genuinely amusing sequence.” Nevertheless, the team was unable to incorporate it since the concept did not fit within the film’s overall framework. “It would have been incredibly entertaining to feature that Mumbo Jumbo-designed scene, but, in the end, it just didn’t pan out. He also designed a series of elaborate traps for us, but we couldn’t figure out how to implement those either,” Hess mentioned.

Ensuring that the constructions featured in the film were feasible within the Minecraft game was critically important to the team, so that the film remains as faithful to the gaming experience as possible. “So, even with Steve’s Lava Chicken Shack and all those elements, we would ask ourselves, ‘Wow, are we certain we can do this? Does it function? Alright, let’s jump into the game and build it right now. Okay, it checks out. It’s foolproof,” Hess remarked.

Although his design did not make the cut, Mumbo was still able to make an appearance in the film, along with fellow YouTubers DanTDM and Aphma, who are just a few names among the extensive roster of A Minecraft Movie Easter eggs, references, and cameos. The movie, which is rapidly becoming one of the best online game films thus far, also pays homage to the legendary late Minecraft YouTuber TechnoBlade.
