Delve into Hurts, an unconventional action-packed comedy crafted by the creators behind Bullet Train and John Wick, which marks Ke Huy Quan’s inaugural leading role in a Hollywood blockbuster. It also represents his first instance performing alongside The Lord of the Rings’ Sean Astin in four decades…
In this romcom-infused film, set to premiere just in time for Valentine’s Day on February 7, Quan portrays Marvin Gable, a kind-hearted, diligent realtor whose sole desire is to keep his head down, sell a few houses, and impress his amiable, cowboy hat-wearing boss (Astin).
“When we discussed who could portray Cliff, my mentor, there was only one name that came to mind, and that was Sean Astin. I’m delighted that he agreed. It was an exceptionally enjoyable day for me – on the day we filmed that scene, another member of the Goonies, Jeff Cohen, who is my entertainment lawyer, came to visit us. We had a lovely little reunion,” Quan reminisces in an interview with GamesRadar+.
However, Marvin’s concealed past resurfaces when his old friend Rose (Ariana DeBose) reenters his life – and his vengeful brother Knuckles (Daniel Wu) learns of her return. It seems they possess quite a history as well… From that point on, things turn violent, as Marvin must awaken his killer instincts to protect himself and his former love.
Fortunately, Quan had a smoother experience offscreen. “It was so amazing to share the screen with Sean again after 40 years. I felt like a kid once more and I genuinely became quite emotional on a personal level… knowing what Goonies meant to both of us and to all the fans. It’s sort of like our little gift to the Goonies fans.”
