By George R. R. Martin made an unexpected appearance in the television series Dark Winds, with a clear jab at his long-awaited upcoming novel, The Winds of Winter. This moment occurs during the season 3 premiere, and he isn’t the only well-known personality featured.
The first episode of Dark Winds season 3 aired this week, showcasing a couple of true misfits in the spotlight. Joe Leaphorn visits them, checking in and uncovering a chess match, with Martin in the spotlight, contemplating his next strategy, and across from him? Hollywood legend Robert Redford, who makes a pointed remark.
“George, the entire world is waiting, make a move,” Redford’s character proclaims. Martin’s character remains hesitant until Joe provides him with a winning strategy.

Any public appearance by Martin typically results in people eagerly inquiring about when they will finally be able to read the sixth book in A Song of Ice and Fire. It has been 14 years since the release of the last book, A Dance With Dragons, and we have received sporadic updates since, including from Martin himself, who asserts that progress is indeed being made.
To be fair, he has been quite occupied since 2011, assisting with Game of Thrones itself, collaborating with FromSoftware on the game Elden Ring, and various other endeavors, including recently launching his own cocktail bar. Several more of his works are being adapted, with In a Lost Lands starring Milla Jovovich set to debut in theaters soon.
In any case, House of the Dragon season 3 will continue the saga of Westeros, the Targaryens years before the events of Game of Thrones.
