The Retro 87 TKL Xbox edition keyboard by 8BitDo has been specially crafted in collaboration with Xbox. This keyboard showcases distinct features that pay homage to Microsoft’s original home gaming console, including a transparent green plastic casing and directional keys that mirror the colors of the Xbox controller’s face buttons. Additionally, it includes a built-in Xbox button, enabling users to access the Xbox overlay menu on Windows. Like 8BitDo’s range of console-themed mechanical keyboards, the Retro 87 TKL comes with a detachable panel featuring two large, customizable microswitch buttons that complement the keyboard’s design.
This device also incorporates RGB lighting and is officially compatible with Windows, Mac, and Android devices through 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth, and wired connections. Even the included USB-C cable fits the keyboard’s green color scheme. You can personalize your key bindings and adjust other settings using 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software V2 app. Previously, it was only available on Windows and Android, but 8BitDo has now expanded the V2 software suite to macOS.

Although the accompanying Retro R8 Xbox Edition Wireless Mouse has not yet seen a price reduction, its current $60 price tag is already quite reasonable. The Retro R8 features an ambidextrous design along with four additional programmable buttons—two on each side of the mouse. Similar to the directional keys of the Retro 87, the extra buttons on the Retro R8 are styled to match the colors of the Xbox controller’s face buttons.
The Retro R8 connects to PC, Mac, and Android devices through Bluetooth or 2.4GHz wireless using the included dongle. The USB-A dongle can be stored either in the mouse or in the included magnetic charging dock. If you prefer a wired connection, just like the keyboard, the Retro R8 comes with a green USB-C cable for charging and wired use. The mouse is also capable of charging directly, meaning you don’t need to take the dock with you when you step away from your desk.
You can adjust the Retro R8’s settings using the Ultimate Software V2 app for desktop or mobile. The mouse package includes a one-month trial to PC Game Pass for new subscribers. However, you won’t be able to redeem either voucher if you…hang the keyboard and mouse.
If you are searching for a particular model, several different 8BitDo TKL wireless keyboards are available at a discount of up to $24. All of 8BitDo’s keyboards draw inspiration from vintage gaming consoles or computers, including the NES-inspired N, the Famicom-themed Fami Edition, and the Commodore 64-themed C64 Edition. Each of these models is discounted by at least $20, with the NES-themed keyboard available for the lowest price of $76.
On the other hand, the C64 Edition features the additional benefit of including the Beautiful Stick, a detachable arcade stick, as well as the Beautiful Buttons.
