8BitDo’s Retro 87 TKL Xbox Edition Mechanical Keyboard was crafted in collaboration with Xbox, featuring several elements reminiscent of Microsoft’s inaugural home gaming console. It boasts a translucent green plastic casing and directional keys that reflect the colors of the Xbox controller’s face buttons. Additionally, an integrated Xbox button allows access to the Xbox overlay menu on Windows. Like other console-themed mechanical keyboards from 8BitDo, the Retro 87 TKL includes a detachable panel with two large, customizable microswitch buttons styled similarly to the keyboard.
The Retro 87 is also equipped with RGB lighting and is officially compatible with Windows, Mac, and Android devices through 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth, and wired options. Even the provided USB-C cable aligns with the keyboard’s green color palette. You can personalize your settings and bindings using 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software V2 application. Recently, 8BitDo expanded the V2 software suite to macOS, which was previously exclusive to Windows and Android.
Inside the box, you’ll find a complimentary one-month trial for new PC Game Pass subscribers.

The corresponding Retro R8 Wireless Mouse is already attractively priced at its standard $60 MSRP, and this 20% discount allows you to acquire a customizable gaming mouse that looks fantastic for under $50.
The Retro R8 features an ambidextrous design and comes with four additional programmable buttons—two on each side. Just like the directional keys on the Retro 87, the extra buttons of the Retro R8 also match the Xbox controller’s color scheme.
This mouse can connect to PC, Mac, and Android devices via Bluetooth or 2.4GHz wireless using the included dongle. The USB-A dongle can be stored either inside the mouse or in the accompanying magnetic charging dock. If you prefer a wired setup, like the keyboard, the Retro R8 includes a green USB-C cable for charging and wired operation. You can also charge the mouse directly, eliminating the need to bring the dock when away from your workstation.
You can customize the Retro R8’s settings in the Ultimate Software V2 app on desktop or mobile. It’s packaged with a one-month trial for PC Game Pass for new users. Note that you cannot redeem both trial vouchers if you purchase both the keyboard and mouse.
8BitDo plans to release an NES-themed edition of the Retro R8 Mouse on May 22 for $50, but preorders are currently sold out on Amazon. The Retro R8 is 8BitDo’s second mouse, following the N30 2.4GHz Wireless Mouse, which features a D-pad instead of side buttons and a touch panel for scrolling. The N30 is available for just $21 (was $30) on Amazon.

If you’re seeking an alternate style, various other 8BitDo TKL wireless keyboards are currently discounted by up to $20. Each of 8BitDo’s keyboards draws inspiration from classic gaming consoles or computers, like the NES-themed N Edition, the Famicom-themed Fami Edition, and the Commodore 64-themed C64 Edition.

The C64 Edition additionally features the Super Stick—a detachable arcade stick—alongside the Super Buttons. All mentioned models are tenkeyless (TKL), but 8BitDo also offers corresponding Numpads—the C64 Numpad is currently the only one at a discount. In December, 8BitDo introduced full-size versions of the NES and Fami Editions, which are both available for just $96—this is the best price yet on Amazon.
