Daylight’s Hellraiser DLC Faces Swift Withdrawal from Sale
Dead by Deadlight bids farewell to a horror legend. Developer Behaviour Interactive has declared that Pinhead – along with his Hellraiser Chapter DLC – will be withdrawn from sale on April 4th.
Pinhead joined the Dead by Daylight lineup back in September 2021, following the paths of other horror icons like Halloween’s Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street, and Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
However, as Hellraiser would have it, where there is pleasure, there is also dread, and Pinhead – also known as The Cenobite – is retreating to his dark corner of Hell early next month, taking his pain-inducing box with him. As noted in Behaviour’s announcement, however, he is only disappearing from digital storefronts – existing players can keep enjoying the old needle-head after April 4th, but new purchases of the Hellraiser Chapter DLC will no longer be possible.
If that news has unexpectedly motivated you to make a last-minute FOMO purchase, it’s worth noting that the Hellraiser DLC is being removed from first-party digital stores starting today, March 4th (except for Switch’s eShop, which will bid farewell to Pinhead on March 18th), but it will still be available for purchase via Dead by Daylight‘s in-game shop until 4 PM GMT on April 4th. To assist with some final purchases before the Hellraiser Chapter’s removal, Behaviour is offering a 50 percent discount on The Cenobite and his Cosmetics in Dead by Daylight’s store.
Behaviour has not clarified why the DLC is being withdrawn from sale (its official FAQ states, “As with all Live-Service Games, frequent updates and alterations are to be expected”), but the cause is very likely related to licensing. Dead by Daylight’s Stranger Things DLC had a similar situation.
