Croc: Yarn of the Gobbos remaster gets a PC and console originate date
Fans of developer Argonaut’s fondly remembered 3D platformer Croc: Yarn of the Gobbos are in for a wave of nostalgia; after a slight delay, its previously announced remaster now has a launch date set for 2nd April, debuting on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch.
Croc: Yarn of the Gobbos, for those unfamiliar (or younger), debuted on the original PlayStation in 1997, guiding players – as the titular crocodile – on a journey through Gobbo Valley to rescue their friends from the wicked magician Baron Dante. While the subsequent adventure didn’t quite become a genre classic, it certainly garnered its share of supporters.
Now, Argonaut – which was revived last year, two decades after its original shutdown – is revisiting Croc’s inaugural venture with a nostalgia-infused update. It promises “vivid high-definition visuals, a refreshed control and camera system, and enhanced gameplay mechanics” as players navigate “beautifully redesigned” levels.
Accompanying this is the introduction of a Crocipedia – a “meticulously curated” digital museum chronicling the original game’s development through design documents, concept art, animation tests, pre-launch music tracks, and interviews with both past and present developers.
