If you were anticipating to complete your 2024 with a significant dose of 90s nostalgia, there’s some frustrating news; Argonaut Video games’ Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster – initially set to launch this month – has been postponed to “Q1” of next year.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos originally debuted on PlayStation 1 around 27 years ago, taking players – in the role of the titular crocodile – on a platforming journey through Gobbo Valley to rescue their friends from the evil sorcerer Baron Dante.

Argonaut announced its revival of the beloved 1997 3D platformer back in August – an announcement that was notably surprising given that Argonaut had been defunct since it shut down due to financial difficulties in 2004. However, the studio has now risen from its past as a “boutique publisher” under the leadership of new co-CEOs Gary Sheinwald and Mike Arkin.

The revived company’s Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster was originally slated for release on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC (via GOG) this month, but Argonaut has now pushed the launch back to early 2025 in order to “apply the finishing touches to ensure the game meets the high standards we strive for and that you deserve.”

“We realize that after 27 years of anticipation, this news might be somewhat disappointing,” it continued, “especially with the holiday season approaching. Nonetheless, our aim has always been to provide a game with the quality and polish that will genuinely please you. We are thankful for your patience and support as we endeavor to revive Croc in the best possible manner.”

Argonaut’s Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster promises upgraded high-definition visuals, refreshed modern control mechanics, and a “nostalgic, enjoyable, and genuine gameplay experience”. It will also include the Crocipedia, a “curated digital museum” included.
