Creature Commandos actor Steve Agee mentions that while launching the DCU with an exciting premise is “pretty high stakes,” fans can be reassured that the future direction for the comic’s TV and film adaptations rests in capable hands.
“I never would have anticipated that James would create an animated series, so that was a fantastic surprise. And the fact that it’s starting off the universe was like, wow, those are some pretty high stakes,” Agee shares with GamesRadar+. “But it’s a classic James Gunn endeavor where, despite being animated, James’ foremost concern in every project he undertakes is the storyline and the characters. You see, the backgrounds, the essence of these characters, and their development take precedence over any humor or action.”
“There could ultimately be a significant gray area between right and wrong, and all these characters possess remarkable arcs, which is why I’ve been loyal to James, dating back to his earlier projects. I believe [Creature Commandos] establishes a universe where people can confidently expect that [the DCU] will continue to be very important under James Gunn’s vision. Everything’s gonna be alright.”
Creature Commandos marks the inaugural project for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU lineup, with Superman and Peacemaker season 2 on the horizon. Agee reprises his role as John Economos from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, seamlessly transitioning between live-action and animation – because yes, the animated shows within the DCU are all part of the same canon (and this implies that Clayface could indeed make an appearance).
