The most recognized Dungeons & Dragons original series was re-released last month in a stunning hardcover omnibus edition featuring the original three-part story. Authored by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the 1,056-page Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy quickly became a bestseller, resulting in stock shortages across various retailers. Amazon has recently replenished this substantial volume and is offering a 20% discount that reduces the price from $35 to $27.83.

Third-party resellers have the book listed for $29 at Walmart, but buying directly from Walmart (shipped and sold) will cost you $34.15. Despite that, even at full price, Dragonlance Chronicles remains a fantastic deal for fans since you’re acquiring a trilogy of novels in a single display-worthy hardcover book. For additional Dragonlance narratives, check out Humble’s The World of Dragonlance Book Bundle, which features 26 ebooks for just $18.

Dragonlance Chronicles includes three classic fantasy novels co-authored by Hickman and Weis:

  • Dragons of Autumn Twilight (1984)
  • Dragons of Winter Night (1985)
  • Dragons of Spring Dawning (1985)

The trilogy had been unavailable for quite some time before Random House Worlds reissued it on February 4; the most recent standalone edition of Dragons of Autumn Twilight was released back in 2006. Consequently, The Chronicles arc—widely recognized as the most outstanding novels in the broader Dragonlance book series—had been difficult to locate in physical format for reasonable prices.

Along with an attractive new cover, Dragonlance Chronicles features a foreword by actor (and passionate D&D enthusiast) Joe Manganiello.

The series is fundamentally based on the official Dragonlance campaign setting for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons First and Second Editions, which itself originated from Hickman and Weis’ D&D sessions in the early 1980s. The epic fantasy trilogy follows a group of adventurers who become embroiled in a legendary conflict known as the War of the Lance. The trilogy was published alongside various other works.

Official D&D settings within the Dragonlance realm, encompassing adventure modules, spin-off board games, video titles, and more.

While the Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy represented the official narrative for the original AD&D Dragonlance modules, subsequent editions of D&D have also showcased official modules and expansions set in the Dragonlance universe, including the latest Fifth Edition. Apart from the official game materials, it has led to the creation of over 190 spin-off novels, including two sequel volumes to the original trilogy, Dragonlance Chronicles: The Second Generation and Dragons of Summer Flame. Unfortunately, physical copies of both volumes are sold out, but you can also find Kindle and audiobook editions of Summer Flame on Amazon.

The latest Dragonlance book trilogy is Dragonlance Destinies, which began in 2022. Paperback versions of all three novels–Dragons of Deceit, Dragons of Fate, and Dragons of Eternity–are available on Amazon. Books 2 and 3 are also offered in hardcover at significant discounts. Some of the books are part of Amazon’s B2G1 Free Book Sale running through March 29.
