A Norwegian film centered around World War II is rising steadily up the Netflix rankings – and it boasts an impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes.
According to the official synopsis, Number 24 is set during the course of the Second World War, where a young Norwegian man’s determination to resist the Nazis sets a new path for his destiny – and for his nation. His sacrifices and acts of sabotage propel him to become Norway’s most celebrated war hero. John Andreas Andersen directs based on a screenplay by Erlend Loe and Espen Lauritzen von Ibenfeldt. The cast includes Sjur Vatne Brean, Erik Hivju, Philip Helgar, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Ines Høysæter Asserson, Tag Noble, and August Wittgenstein.
Number 24 narrates the true story of Gunnar Sønsteby, known as Agent No. 24, who was part of the Norwegian resistance during the German occupation of Norway in World War II. This two-hour drama first premiered in Norway in October 2024 and is currently positioned at number 10 on Netflix’s global streaming chart.
The new film also maintains a 95% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, with RogerEbert.com commenting, “The director presents a predominantly patriotic portrayal of a man wholly committed to his duty. It’s an unwavering approach that often results in an engaging viewing experience, even through a limited perspective.”
