In just eight days, The Sims will celebrate its 25th anniversary – and EA is allegedly ready to reintroduce The Sims 1 & 2 this week as part of the series’ quarter-century festivities.

The Sims 1 & 2 have, undeniably, long been inaccessible through official means, with the 25-year-old original never being available digitally and its sequel’s brief Ultimate Collection being removed from Origin in 2018. However, that could be about to change. Kotaku, referencing a “source familiar” with EA’s intentions, reports that the re-releases of The Sims 1 & 2 will commence on PC later this week, including all their original expansions. It remains “uncertain” whether a console version will follow.

Providing further support for Kotaku’s report is the series of prominent hints EA has been releasing to coincide with the beginning of The Sims’ Nostalgia Now week, which runs from January 27th to 31st. The series’ official website, for example, now features a character from the latest The Sims surrounded by The Sims 2‘s radial interface.

In a similar vein, the publisher has shared a brief animation – paired with the phrase “BRB” – on social media. It showcases The Sims’ legendary spinning Plumbob – initially surrounded by The Sims 2’s radial menu, then layered over colorful squares paying tribute to The Sims 1’s packaging.

Interestingly, the video then shifts to a scene reminiscent of The Sims 3‘s loading screen. Kotaku’s report does not reference the series’ third installment, yet fans have been rather startled earlier this month when, with no explanation or announcement, it received its first (still undisclosed) update in 15 years. This suggests EA has been subtly making adjustments behind the scenes to implement some unique foundational balance and compatibility.
