Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the exquisite turn-based homage to classic JRPGs, has already completely sold out its collector’s edition months ahead of its April launch, as developer Sandfall Interactive is genuinely taken aback by the demand for physical copies.
From its impressive voice cast to its accommodating (for JRPG benchmarks) 30-hour main narrative, we’ve been thoroughly impressed by Clair Obscur since its announcement at the Xbox Games Showcase last summer, and it appears we’re not the only ones feeling this way.
Sandfall expressed gratitude in a tweet acknowledging the overwhelming quantity of orders for collector’s and physical editions. “We never expected to sell out of our collectors editions so early, nor could we have anticipated the high demand for our physical editions,” the tweet states.

I’m not so naive as to believe that physical media will experience a resurgence, but moments like this are wonderful for those of us who still prefer to have games displayed on our shelves. Sandfall mentioned that it may explore options for restocking the sold-out editions of Clair Obscur, but cautions that “we can’t guarantee it yet and we appreciate your understanding of our limitations.”
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is set to launch on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X on April 24, 2025, and will be available on day one with Game Pass as well.
