2K and Firaxis Games are preparing to introduce an entirely new experience to the Civilization adventure. Today, during the Civ World Summit livestream on the official Firaxis Games Twitch channel, the studios announced the development of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII—the latest edition in the strategy series—specifically for virtual and augmented reality for the first time, launching Civilization VII VR for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S.
This fresh interpretation of Civilization will elevate players above the gameplay area, which will be housed within a large circular surface known as the Command Table. Civ VII VR will feature both single-player and online multiplayer modes, although online players will be limited to competing with others who also own a Meta Quest 3 or 3S.

Civilization VII VR will also support full virtual reality and augmented reality modes. In both options, players can command their citizens from a distant, overhead perspective or zoom in on board activities by leaning forward as the tiny virtual citizens tackle each task as directed.
The complete VR environment will transport the player into a vast museum, with the landscape outside the museum designed to reflect the player’s chosen leader. In contrast, augmented reality will project the surface of the Command Table onto a flat area within the real-world physical space, such as transforming a kitchen table, for instance.
