Citizen Sleeper 2 Promises Unforgettable Adventures Ahead of Its Xbox Game Launch

By on January 31, 2025 0 0 Views

As we close out an exciting January for Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft has yet another ‘day one’ launch to add to the service – Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector. While we haven’t had time to take an in-depth look at it here at Pure Xbox HQ just yet, reports are starting to surface online for this new sci-fi installment.

With that in mind, here’s what the reviewers are saying about Citizen Sleeper 2 ahead of its Game Pass arrival later today:

Eurogamer (5/5)

“I was unsure how Damian-Martin would follow up on Citizen Sleeper 1, to be honest, but with Citizen Sleeper 2, they have achieved that and done so in style. They’ve discovered a way to make the gameplay aspect meaningful, bringing it out of the shadows and intertwining the adventure seamlessly with it. It’s truly remarkable.”

VG24/7 (5/5)

“Amid reflections on transhumanism, capitalism, authority, and technology are real stories about genuine people. No space wizards, no spaceship battles, no heroes. Just the everyday struggles of individuals trying to survive. It’s incredibly grounded, and it’s something I’d love to see more of in sci-fi. Citizen Sleeper’s world belongs to its junkyard scavengers, gritty engineers, repair specialists, cargo carriers, and all others on this makeshift asteroid belt.”

TechRadar Gaming (5/5)

“Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector narrates a bold science fiction story through an impeccably crafted system and a touching narrative filled with themes that are all too relevant to our times. This is enhanced by a team of companions who are not just well-developed but also provide genuine assistance during crises – a scenario you’ll frequently encounter. The calming atmospheric soundtrack adds to the experience as well.”

PCGamesN (9/10)

“Starward Vector presents an expanded vision of the Citizen Sleeper universe, one that we could only imagine from the numerous discussions we had while stranded on Erlin’s Eye back in 2022. The ability to hop into the Rig and launch off to a remote destination feels reminiscent of an open-world game, yet its steadfast focus on everyday individuals starkly contrasts big-budget sci-fi blockbusters like Bethesda’s Starfield – and that’s what makes it even better.”

GamesRadar (4/5)

“Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector is a clever sequel in that it builds on everything that succeeded in the excellent first installment. However, recapturing the innovation of the original – which was quietly transformative for those interested in the genre – is a tall order. It performs well and delivers a solid experience, but the success of Citizen Sleeper raised the expectations impossibly high.”

IGN (8/10)

“Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector stays true to what made the original a cult classic, but it doesn’t need to veer off course. It narrates a rich and touching story about the intricate nature of self-control, especially when one’s existence is as a machine that can be rebooted and hacked. It explores community building in the face of daunting challenges and communicates personhood both to oneself and to others. Its visual novel-like format heavily relies on reading and dice rolling, so it’s not particularly fast-paced, but the revamped character classes, new crew missions, and stress mechanics provide enough feedback to create a sense of tension throughout.
