Catly Developer Unveils Accurate Gameplay Trailer Amidst AI Controversy

The creator of Catly has recently updated the game’s Steam page with a premier-quality gameplay trailer and visuals, following claims that its game and trailer utilized generative AI and blockchain technology.
The trailer (available on Steam, but not yet on YouTube) showcases various cats exploring fantastical natural settings, along with customization options for cat breeds and a selection of outfits.
It further displays the incredibly realistic fur in-game, which the developer SuperAuthenti previously confirmed has been created using Unreal Engine 5.
Catly was initially revealed at last week’s The Game Awards, characterized as an “open-world adventure” where players can design their ideal island and care for cats by “customizing, constructing, farming, racing, skiing, and much more,” according to the Steam page.
Additional gameplay details have been shared. An online mode will permit players to collaborate globally on their cat creations and undertake challenges with island inhabitants. There will be farming simulation elements along with island construction, as well as templates and tools to create unique outfits, furniture, houses, and gardens.
SuperAuthenti faced criticism after the game’s reveal due to allegations that it employed generative AI in its game and trailer, along with potential ties to blockchain technology.
The studio’s co-founder, Kevin Yeung, also co-founded TenthPlanet – a studio reportedly developing two blockchain games. The Steam page also features a testimonial from recognized web3 investor and League of Legends producer Thomas Vu.
SuperAuthenti asserted that generative AI was not used for the game or trailer. “In fact, we are quite surprised by such speculations,” it stated in a press release from a PR representative. “We do not believe in this.”
