Capcom Pulls the Plug on Resident Obnoxious Re:Verse Amid Disappointing Steam Player Counts
Capcom is discontinuing Resident Evil Re:Verse, a multiplayer shooter that features various characters from the horror franchise battling against each other.
The company plans to remove the game and all downloadable content from sale on March 3, 2025, before shutting down the servers on June 29. Players should enjoy any in-game items and currency they have purchased before that date.
Capcom confirmed that the game will be removed across all systems. They did not provide a specific explanation for the closure but indicated that Re:Verse had indeed surpassed expectations in several ways since its release in 2022.
“Resident Evil Re:Verse was created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, and your tremendous support for the game has greatly exceeded our expectations since its launch,” stated the publisher in an announcement.
“Having now reached a new milestone for the series, we genuinely believe that Resident Evil Re:Verse has fulfilled its original, celebratory purpose commendably.”
Resident Evil Re: Verse‘s latest status
Despite these remarks, Resident Evil Re:Verse currently holds a ‘mostly negative’ rating on Steam from nearly 3,000 user reviews.
According to estimates from SteamDB, the game had essentially flatlined on the platform and could only manage three concurrent players at one point this week.
It apparently reached an all-time peak of 2,115 concurrent players over two years ago, but has struggled to come close to matching those figures since.
It remains uncertain how Re:Verse may have performed on other platforms.
