Activision has postponed the launch of Call of Duty: Sad Ops 6 and Warzone Season 3, which includes the eagerly awaited return of the classic Verdansk map from the original game.

Season 3 was initially set to debut around March 20. Now, it will arrive two weeks later on April 3.

“Season 3 is a significant moment for Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops 6, and we are taking the necessary time to provide a stellar experience beginning on April 3,” Activision shared in a social media post.

“More details will follow after Call of Duty: Warzone’s fifth anniversary next week…”

Verdansk was the original map for Call of Duty: Warzone, available when the battle royale first launched back in 2020. It is now highly anticipated to make a return just in time for the game’s fifth anniversary.

Call of Duty is the latest battle royale to draw on nostalgia and reintroduce a beloved map in hopes of increasing player engagement, following in the footsteps of Fortnite and Apex Legends.

This decision to revisit a fan-favorite map comes after a rocky start to this year’s Call of Duty season, with Activision having to focus on addressing player frustrations regarding rampant in-game cheating, acknowledging the use of in-game AI imagery, and promoting a separate expensive Squid Game battle pass.

“For a franchise rooted in high-energy thrills and explosive enjoyment, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s retreat to a tried-and-true formula reflects the industry’s ongoing aversion to innovation,” said our Chris Faucets.
