BioWare’s Transformative Shift: Embracing Agility Amidst Workforce Changes

BioWare is “reconceptualizing” its operational methods, stating that the team responsible for the next Mass Effect installment “doesn’t require assistance from the entire studio.”

As a result – and without specifying the number of individuals affected by the changes – general manager Gary McKay mentioned that the studio had “worked hard” to reassign BioWare personnel “to other teams at EA.”

Reports from IGN, on the other hand, also indicate that a “smaller group” of Dragon Age team members faced layoffs.

“Now that Dragon Age: The Veilguard has launched, a core team at BioWare is crafting the upcoming Mass Effect game under the guidance of veterans from the original trilogy, such as Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts, Parrish Ley, and others,” McKay explained in a statement.

“In line with our strong commitment to innovation throughout the development and delivery of Mass Effect, we have challenged ourselves to think deeply about providing the most engaging experience to our fans. We are utilizing this opportunity between full development cycles to rethink how we operate at BioWare.”

“Given this level of development, we don’t require support from the entire studio. We have exceptional talent here at BioWare, and we have worked diligently over the past few months to ensure many of our colleagues transition to other teams at EA that have available positions that are a good fit.”

“Today’s announcement will see BioWare evolve into a more agile, focused studio that creates memorable RPGs,” McKay’s statement concluded. “We appreciate your support as we pave a new path for BioWare.”
