A recent report indicates that some BioWare staff “loaned” to various EA studios are likely not coming back.

Earlier this week, amidst reports of potential layoffs at BioWare, studio head Gary McKay confirmed that many employees have been reassigned to different departments within EA following the completion of Dragon Age: The Veilguard – and that a remaining core team is entirely focused on Mass Effect 5.

However, Bloomberg has reported that the “loans” made by BioWare to support EA teams in other divisions have now “transformed into permanent relocations”.

According to Bloomberg sources and “individuals familiar with the situation,” employees are no longer merely “temporary assignments elsewhere” but have genuinely become part of whichever EA subsidiary had taken them on.

“If they wish to return to BioWare in the future, they will need to search for job opportunities and re-apply,” stated Bloomberg.

“This was an unwelcome surprise for several employees, who now find themselves on entirely new teams at studios they had not intended to join. Many came to BioWare to contribute to renowned role-playing game franchises and view working on action or sports games as less desirable.”

This situation has seemingly resulted in BioWare halving its workforce from 200 employees to around 100 in just two years.
