So what’s the deal with that remake?
This week celebrates the 19th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and there have been whispers online for a while regarding a potential remake—suggesting this anticipated title might even receive a surprise release on Xbox soon.
While many fans were eager to hear some news coinciding with the anniversary, it appears we might have to keep waiting. The official Bethesda social media account acknowledged the date, but unfortunately, it only shared a few words, a simple image, and nothing more… (for the time being).
Fans have examined the image above a bit further, but at this moment, they have come away with little—many expressing that now would surely be the perfect opportunity to announce the long-rumored remake. It’s also worth mentioning that Bethesda typically commemorates its game anniversaries, so this post recognizing one of its classics isn’t particularly unusual.
The latest update on this rumored Oblivion project was revealed just last week, with the industry insider ‘NateTheHate’ claiming that the interval between this game’s “announcement and launch will be brief,” and also indicating that a surprise release on Xbox is possible.
Previous reports regarding this remake imply that it is being developed by the team at Virtuos and may be “completely overhauled” using Unreal Engine 5. This new version is said to include six enhanced areas to improve the overall gameplay and user experience.
If you still wish to celebrate Oblivion’s anniversary this week, you can access it through Microsoft’s storefront as part of the backward compatibility program. It’s also available on Xbox Game Pass.
Do you think we will be seeing this Oblivion remake soon?
