“Battlefield 6 Surprises with Unexpected Gameplay Reveal and Multi-Studio Collaboration”
EA is gradually revealing details about Battlefield 6 with a new video showcasing the game’s four development studios, providing a pre-alpha community preview, and hinting at several key features of the upcoming title.
While there’s no official name or launch date announced for the new installment, the teaser video clarifies that it is indeed a classic addition to the Battlefield franchise. DICE is leading the development on multiplayer aspects and the foundational game mechanisms, while Criterion—renowned for creating Burnout and Need for Speed—is developing a support feature and focusing on a single-player segment.
The developers express unmistakably that “campaign is back” this time around. Motive, known for the Dead Space remake, will be contributing to the creation of the single-player campaign and working on multiplayer maps. Ripple Effect, the long-time support studio for Battlefield and a successor to the team behind the original Medal of Honor, is working on “an experience that will truly open Battlefield to a whole new audience,” yet specific details on what that experience entails remain undisclosed.
Introducing Battlefield Labs | Battlefield Studios – YouTube
This upcoming Battlefield installment is currently in “pre-alpha,” yet it’s advanced enough for the developers to share approximately 10 seconds of gameplay footage. The visuals showcase significant destruction, hinting at a return to a modern, grounded setting.
A series of community tests branded Battlefield Labs will commence shortly. Sign-ups for Battlefield Labs are already available, but keep in mind that invitations are limited and participation will likely be under a non-disclosure agreement. “Initially, we will focus on testing the fundamental gameplay aspects, such as core combat and destruction. After that, we will shift to balancing and gathering feedback on our weapons, vehicles, and gadgets, ultimately leading to the integration of all these elements into our maps, game modes, and squad dynamics,” the developers note in a Discord message.
“Moreover, we will be testing Conquest and Breakthrough, which are the essence of our all-out warfare experience, but Battlefield Labs will also serve as a platform to explore new concepts and refine key elements, such as our class system (Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon), to foster deeper and more strategic gameplay.”
EA has increasingly focused on community playtests to help shape new titles like Project Rene and Skate 4, and given the lukewarm reception to Battlefield 2142, it’s not surprising that the publisher wants to ensure everything is right for the next entry in the FPS series.
