Ballistic Moon, the studio behind the anticipated remake of Until Dawn, has officially shut its doors.

The studio responsible for the Until Dawn remake, Ballistic Moon, has reportedly “effectively shut down.”
Ballistic Moon acknowledged a round of layoffs in September 2024, releasing a statement on LinkedIn indicating it had decided to “significantly reduce” operations to “ensure” the future of the studio.
According to InsiderGaming, however, “multiple sources” reveal that in addition to the 40 employees let go in September, another 20 developers have also been “quietly laid off,” leaving “only the studio’s founders” and “perhaps” a few team members “at most.”
Sources from IG noted that there are no staff remaining in PR, marketing, or even design currently, with management unable to secure any new projects or funding.
“People are reporting bugs they’ve found in [Until Dawn remake] to keep the team informed, but there is no one available for patch support for the game anymore,” a source stated. “The studio has essentially shut down now.”
Anonymous sources have also mentioned alleged issues regarding “weeks” of unpaid overtime.
As of this writing, there has been no official update from Ballistic on the situation.
In just the first two months of 2025 alone, nearly 1200 developers have been laid off, with reductions and closures at Freejam, Splash Damage, Piranha Games, Jar of Sparks, Ubisoft, ProbablyMonsters, Iron Galaxy, Sumo Group, Liquid Sword, NetEase Games, Toast Interactive, Night School Studio, and – most recently – the Callisto Protocol studio, Striking Distance.
