Larian would like you to be aware, whether you wish it or not, that Baldur’s Gate 3 is not entirely finished. The studio has now shared what lies ahead for the multi-award-winning RPG, which includes cross-play, a photo mode, and twelve new subclasses all slated for release next year.

As outlined over on Steam, Larian is currently working on “one more major patch” for Baldur’s Gate 3 – officially titled Patch 8 – which is set to unveil “some of the most anticipated features”, starting with cross-play.

Baldur’s Gate 3 already supports cross-progression, enabling players to continue from where they paused, regardless of the platform they switch to. Beginning next year, however, they will also be able to connect with players from different platforms, seamlessly exploring the vast expanse of Faerûn alongside friends on PlayStation, Xbox, Mac, and PC.

“Once the update is live,” Larian elaborates, “you’ll have the option to invite your friends to join your cross-play lobby directly, independent of platform, and discover available multiplayer lobbies with acquaintances on different systems using the Larian Network.”

Patch 8 also brings forth a new photo mode, loaded with a “vast array of options that allow you to customize and enhance your in-game photography, offering various levels of freedom depending on whether you’re using it during exploration, combat, dialogues, or cinematic scenes.”

Players can, for example, activate a camera reticle and composition grid with a simple button press, while lens settings include adjustments for field of view, exposure, depth of field, and focus. It is entirely feasible to hide characters you may not want in the frame – whether they are players, party members, NPCs, or foes – and Larian is also adding facial expressions and over 40 static and dynamic poses (each with unique variations!) that can be applied to characters before capturing an image. And that’s still not everything, with the photo mode also featuring post-processing effects – including contrast, saturation, highlights, brightness, and vignette – along with a range of stickers and frames to enhance the final touches.

Perhaps the most significant additions in Patch 8 are the new subclasses, as Larian introduces one for each of Baldur’s Gate 3’s current classes – meaning that the Bard, Barbarian, Cleric, Druid, Paladin, Fighter, Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard are all included. The new subclass titles are listed below, but you may want to check Larian’s full post for in-depth descriptions of each.

  • Bard – College of Glamour
  • Barbarian – Path of Giants
  • Cleric – Death Domain
  • Druid – Circle of Stars
