Jackie Brown marks Tarantino’s third cinematic entry, after Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. The 1997 film stands as the director’s most compelling adaptation of another author’s work within his 10-film career. Jackie Brown is adapted from the crime novel Rum Punch by the renowned writer Elmore Leonard.
The 4K Blu-ray version includes a 10-part documentary series, a variety of new featurettes, deleted and alternate scenes, promotional content, a poster gallery, and an enhanced trivia screen.
Starring Pam Grier as a flight attendant who covertly transports money from Mexico to the U.S. for an arms dealer in Los Angeles, Jackie Brown also features Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Robert De Niro, Robert Forster, and Bridget Fonda. Similar to his first two films, Jackie Brown was well-received by critics.
Kill Bill Vol. 1 on 4K Blu-ray
$28 (previously $43) | B2G1 Free
Tarantino’s next project wouldn’t debut for another six years, but the anticipation was truly justified. A revenge thriller featuring Uma Thurman, 2003’s Kill Bill is a compilation of everything that distinguishes Tarantino’s films. It tells a character-driven story filled with exaggerated violence, accompanied by an excellent soundtrack. Technically, it showcased the director elevating his craft with multiple sequences that pushed the boundaries of action at that time.
Additional content for the 4K release comprises a documentary titled The Making of Kill Bill Vol. 1, musical performances by the group The 5.6.7.8’s, and an assortment of trailers including the notorious “bootleg” teaser.
Kill Bill Vol. 2 on 4K Blu-ray
$27 (originally $43) | B2G1 Free
Anyone who enjoyed the initial Kill Bill film didn’t have to wait too long for its sequel, as Kill Bill Vol. 2 was released just a year later in 2004. It stands as the fitting follow-up in Tarantino’s body of work. Similar to Vol. 1, the sequel’s 4K version includes a documentary titled The Making of Kill Bill Vol. 2, along with the “Damoe” deleted scene and a musical performance by Chingon.
Both films were crafted as a tribute to low-budget cinema; however, when compared to the first movie, the Kill Bill sequel was notably more subdued in its action. When it did choose to ramp up the cinematic violence, every action sequence felt vibrant and beautiful, bursting forth from long narrative sections within the film.
