The Australian video game industry generated $339.1 million AUD ($211.9 million USD) in revenue in 2024.

In spite of a “difficult” year for the gaming genre worldwide, Australia’s full-time employment remained “consistent” at 2,465 developers, with 61% of studios intending to hire in the following year. Furthermore, 81% of respondents expressed expectations that their studio’s workforce would either stay the same or increase in 2025.

According to the Australian Game Industry Snapshot report by the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association (IGEA), of the 137 studios that participated, 85% created games primarily based on their own intellectual property (IP), and 93% of their revenue was derived from outside Australia.

The survey also revealed that Victoria “remains a favored center for game development,” with 52% of game studio headquarters located within the state. Employee distribution showed that many studios “have a presence in multiple states and typically pursue talent and incentives nationwide,” however, 82% of employees are situated on the east coast (36% Victoria, 27% Queensland, 18% New South Wales, 1% ACT).
