The Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is currently available at its lowest price ever at Best Buy. Normally priced at $650, this 7-inch handheld gaming PC is now available for just $450. In addition to the $200 discount, Best Buy is including the official ROG Ally Travel Case, which is usually sold for $40 alone. If you’re looking to purchase a portable gaming PC and prefer a Windows version, this offer provides you with impressive power and performance at this price point. If Best Buy runs out of stock, you can grab one for $457 at Walmart. This deal is supported by a third-party seller, but Walmart is managing the fulfillment.

The ROG Ally Z1 Extreme features a crisp 1080p display, AMD’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, 16GB LPDDR5 6400 RAM, and a built-in 512GB NVMe SSD. Compared to the $500 base model ROG Ally, the Z1 Extreme has two additional CPU cores and a stronger GPU, which can make a significant difference with newer, more graphically demanding games.

The ROG Ally delivers remarkable performance for the price. While it may not handle graphically intensive games at maximum settings, it can still run many AAA titles in 1080p resolution with at least 30fps. Even at its full price of $650, the ROG Ally’s performance is commendable; at $450, the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme offers exceptional value.

Admittedly, finding a 512GB SSD might be a bit challenging right now, but the ROG Ally comes with a microSD card slot that allows you to expand your storage affordably. For instance, you can get a SanDisk Ultra 1TB microSD card for just $70 at Amazon right now. Alternatively, you can upgrade the built-in SSD with an M.2 2230 NVMe SSD. One option is Corsair’s 1TB MP600 Mini SSD for $80 (was $110).

It’s important to note that Windows…

Windows can sometimes be unwieldy on gaming handhelds, especially if used without a traditional mouse and keyboard setup. Asus does offer a unique application called Armoury Crate, which provides a more familiar console-like interface for gaming, but you will still need to spend some time navigating through Windows 11.

For a more seamless overall experience and to transform your handheld into a versatile desktop PC, we recommend pairing your ROG Ally with a dock. There are numerous budget-friendly options available, such as this popular JSAUX dock for $40. Although it’s on the higher end of the spectrum, Razer is set to launch a Chroma RGB-enabled dock this week. You can find the Razer Handheld Dock Chroma for $80 on Amazon.

Additionally, Asus produces a 65W Charger Dock, which includes ports for USB-C, USB 2.0, and HDMI 2.0.

The Steam Deck remains the most recognized handheld gaming PC by a considerable distance, but the Asus ROG Ally has emerged as the most popular choice for Windows users since its launch in June 2023. Following the success of the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme and Z1 models, Asus introduced the ROG Ally X last year. While it maintains the Z1 Extreme chip, the ROG Ally X boasts 24GB RAM and other desirable enhancements, including improved battery life, upgraded analog sticks, and expanded storage capacity. The ROG Ally X is considerably more expensive, priced at $800 for the 1TB version and $900 for the 2TB version.

Here is the full ROG Ally lineup, with the Z1 Extreme being the only model currently on sale.

2025 is shaping up to be another exciting year for handheld PCs, starting with the launch of the Lenovo Legion Go S. The Windows version of Lenovo’s enhanced handheld features a new Ryzen Z2 Go Chip, 32GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD. The Legion Go S is available for preorder now for $730 at Best Buy ahead of its release on February 14.

Furthermore, in May, Lenovo will introduce a $500 version of the Legion Go S with SteamOS, the same operating system used by Valve’s Steam Deck. This version will be equipped with the Z2 Go Chip, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD. It will be the first third-party handheld to launch running on SteamOS.
