Assassin’s Creed Origins and Valhalla Receive Essential Patch to Address Compatibility Issues on Windows Systems

Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla each feature unique patches aimed at resolving issues related to a 2024 Windows update that rendered the games almost unplayable for two months.

Microsoft initiated the rollout of Windows 11 version 24H2 last year, and it wasn’t long before players began discovering significant issues with the performance of various Ubisoft titles. While many of these issues were addressed swiftly, for some reason, they persisted for a while in Assassin’s Creed Origins and Valhalla.

In November, Microsoft acknowledged that the 24H2 update was causing some Ubisoft games to “become unresponsive during startup, loading, or while actively playing,” and now, almost two months later, Ubisoft has announced that the issue is resolved in two Steam updates for Assassin’s Creed Origins and Valhalla.

“This patch addresses compatibility problems with the Windows 11 update 24H2,” states the message within both updates.

Thus, the good news is that you should theoretically have the option to launch Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on PC and, well, enjoy playing them again. The unfortunate news, at least for Ubisoft, is that two months of unplayability led to a significant influx of negative Steam reviews that severely impacted both games’ rankings from ‘Very Positive’ to ‘Mixed.’

It’s difficult to determine as an outsider what Ubisoft might have done differently to address the situation before it escalated, making it equally challenging to blame the studio directly. However, considering that both Assassin’s Creed games were largely unplayable for countless players, it’s also hard to fault them for sharing their experiences on Steam.

Anyway, here are the best Assassin’s Creed games, ranked.
