An unannounced title from Respawn Entertainment, the team behind Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi series, seems to have been shelved this week.
Former Respawn production coordinator Emilee Evans disclosed in a LinkedIn update on Wednesday that the “unannounced incubation project” she had been involved with over the past year was canceled this week. Although no specific information has been provided about what the project entailed, a job advertisement from Respawn last year for the studio’s incubation team suggested it was an early-stage multiplayer FPS.
Reports indicated that Respawn was developing a game set in the Titanfall universe, though it wasn’t necessarily Titanfall 3. Titanfall director Steve Fukuda was also leading a small team on a project not related to Titanfall as of 2023. It remains unclear if the recently scrapped title was one of these projects.
According to Evans’s LinkedIn profile, she also contributed to the production of the VR game Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond as well as an unreleased Star Wars FPS title. Last year, Respawn’s Star Wars FPS, rumored to feature a Mandalorian protagonist, was reportedly canceled, and Respawn experienced layoffs.
GameSpot has reached out to EA regarding the canceled title and will update when a response is obtained.
With Respawn seemingly terminating yet another title, devoted Titanfall fans are understandably disappointed about the diminishing chances of a new installment in the franchise, which has only been kept slightly alive through Apex Legends.
Players of the battle royale FPS, which recently celebrated its sixth anniversary, can expect a significant “Apex 2.0” update at some point in the future, though not right away. Respawn is also working on the next Star Wars Jedi title, which will mark the conclusion of a trilogy.
