Anticipation Grows for Death Stranding 2: Fresh Trailers and Release Updates on the Horizon

It seems increasingly plausible that we might soon discover the release date for Death Stranding 2: On the Shoreline, as the awaited sequel from Kojima Productions has recently received a rating in South Korea.

As reported by VGC, the Game Rating and Administration Committee of South Korea announced the rating for Death Stranding 2 today. According to machine translations, it is not suitable for children, which was anticipated given its predecessor’s M rating. The ratings board clarifies that the sequel contains “intense violence” and “profanity,” alongside representations of smoking, drinking, and drug use.

While this doesn’t confirm an imminent release, the appearance of such ratings is typically a positive sign that developments are progressing behind the scenes. Death Stranding 2: On the Shoreline was already scheduled for a 2025 launch, so it’s not an unexpected development, similar to how Silent Hill f was also rated in South Korea last month after two years of quiet. Konami has yet to make any announcements about it since, although it confirms that the game is still in development.

Interestingly, the timing of Death Stranding 2’s rating coincides with director Hideo Kojima hinting at something trailer-related on social media. In a tweet posted yesterday (interpreted by Google and DeepL), he stated he was at the “editing machine,” and included an image that showed text reading “a Hideo Kojima game” that resembled video editing software.

Speculation regarding an imminent PlayStation State of Play has also been rampant recently, adding further fuel to the fire. Today, PlayStation leaked the release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, set for August 28, according to a trailer that surfaced on the PS App. We’ll just have to wait and see if a full presentation is on the horizon as well.
