Arcane season 2 has concluded, and while you can check out our summary of the Arcane season 2 conclusion for the complete picture, I am completely thrilled that Revolt has already unveiled a brand new League of Legends champion in all her glory, and I eagerly anticipate playing as her.

This article contains spoilers for Arcane season 2.

Throughout Arcane season 2, Mel Medarda finds herself captured by the Black Rose. She manages to escape from their magical restraints, however, due to her innate magical powers – dazzling gold, she breaks free from her thorny prison before returning to Piltover equipped with an array of spells. Most crucial to the conflict is a magical shield, capable of protecting against various weapons, even negating and reflecting gunfire at close range. Additionally, she can manipulate enemies and unleash bursts of damage.

Mel’s skillset is purely champion material. She possesses a complete set of spells that are perfect for a League of Legends character, she displays a series of visual effects that would be ideal for a fantastic ability, and her magical design even complements her innate beauty effortlessly. She fits seamlessly into the stories of many different characters, and you will never convince me that she isn’t destined to be the game’s next champion.

Revolt has remained remarkably composed regarding its new champion releases this year. The most we learned about upcoming characters was in January, when the company introduced Smolder, who debuted on the Rift at the beginning of the year, and Aurora, who was teased before her launch in July. There was also a hint about the latest addition, Mel’s mother Ambessa Medarda, who was revealed just prior to season 2’s premiere, along with a mention of a visual alteration likely to occur for Viktor. Beyond this, however, the only insight we have about any upcoming content for 2025 comes from that January video, where we discovered there…

There appeared to be yet another champion in progress who “should be a recognizable face for all of you.” Perhaps that was Ambessa, but maybe it was Mel – Revolt’s quietness might have been an effort to ensure Arcane didn’t reveal any significant spoilers since any hints could potentially unravel the narrative.

Indeed, I’m thrilled if it is Mel, as I can already envision the type of character she will embody. A character that’s not as physically imposing but defends herself with magical barriers and disorienting powers, and is depicted battling closely alongside Caitlyn, a Marksman in the game? Mel is an Enchanter Support, a long-standing champion in the League of Legends roster that has, for the most part, been overlooked over time. The year 2023 introduced us to Milio, and in 2022 we saw the emergence of Renata Glasc, two anti-engage enchanters; however, I’d argue you would need to go back to 2019’s Yuumi to find a comparable champion to Mel (apologies to Senna and Seraphine fans), and even back to 2012’s Nami before that.

I might currently lean more towards tank characters, but I absolutely love enchanters – Lulu remains one of my most-played champions, exemplifying the class with her shields and disorienting spells. My desires have felt somewhat unfulfilled in the past few years due to a few releases that aim to innovate in various ways regarding what these characters achieve, but Mel seems to be bringing back that highly protective aspect of the archetype. Although Arcane has concluded, its characters continue to resonate throughout the community, and I’m eagerly anticipating what’s next.

I’m also quite the admirer of a particular Zaunite rogue – so what occurred to Jinx in Arcane season 2?
