This information comes from Metaplay’s Game Trend Renaissance report, which surveyed 150 senior game developers across the UK and US conducted by the market research firm Atomik Research.
According to the report, the majority of participants expressed optimism about industry growth this year. Over two-thirds of developers expect fewer layoffs and studio shutdowns, while about three-quarters foresee an increase in acquisitions and market exits.
In terms of funding, 77% anticipate better access to capital for new studios due to a rise in crowdfunding, angel investors, and community-supported investments. Metaplay notes that this allows for “greater creative control, flexibility, and early community backing.”
Additionally, 63% of respondents expect the costs of game development to decrease this year due to advancements in technology based on artificial intelligence.
Elsewhere in the report, more than one in three developers view cross-platform capability as the most significant factor in delivering games.
