The analysis firm DFC Intelligence has reduced its expectations for Switch 2 sales due to ongoing uncertainties related to the continuous tariffs imposed by The Trump Administration.

As pointed out by VGC, DFC had initially projected that Switch 2 sales would reach an impressive 17 million by the end of 2025, but this forecast has now been adjusted to 15 million. Nonetheless, this figure still represents a remarkable number, and DFC continues to believe that the Switch 2 could become the fastest-selling console in history.

Conversely, it warns that if Nintendo chooses to raise the price of the device in the United States as a result of the tariffs, which many fear may be an inevitable outcome, a significant portion of potential buyers may prefer to wait until the situation stabilizes:

“With tariffs and uncertain pricing, Nintendo may opt to scale back its production. If costs increase substantially due to tariffs, a large portion of potential consumers tend to delay their purchases until prices decline. This situation is fluid and will be monitored closely as DFC updates its forecasts throughout the year.”

Nintendo has recently postponed pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the United States while it assesses “the potential impact of tariffs and changing market conditions.” Although the release date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged, the possibility of a price increase cannot currently be ruled out.

Meanwhile, pre-orders have also been delayed in Canada, although Nintendo mentioned that this is simply to “sync the timing of pre-orders with those to be established in the U.S.”
