Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 marked the first installment in the series to launch directly on Xbox Game Pass from day one, leading to speculations about the potential impact on sales. While the title’s inclusion on Game Pass appears to have affected Xbox sales particularly, PC and PS5 have more than compensated for this dip.
In an analysis of the latest Circana statistics by analyst Mat Piscatella, it was suggested that Black Ops 6 on Xbox Game Pass “did not seem to result in [a] major cannibalization of sales”—at least in the US, where this data originates. Piscatella further noted that the overall sales distribution “shifted to PlayStation,” indicating that a significantly higher portion of sales occurred on PS4 / PS5.
The fact that Black Ops 6 seemingly did not bolster Xbox console sales is not surprising either. The analyst indicated that despite the significant game release for Microsoft, Black Ops 6 “did not seem to offer a notable increase to Xbox Series hardware.” We believe everything is an Xbox at the moment, regardless, based on Microsoft’s recent marketing campaign.
All this recent US sales data reinforces what we’ve heard from Xbox HQ recently as well – Black Ops 6 was the largest launch in franchise history, and the series continues to be an absolute powerhouse across almost every platform.
