Alan Wake 2 Update Boosts Performance on PS5 for an Enhanced Gaming Experience
Offers the option to disable PSSR.
A new update for Alan Wake 2 has been launched to finally tackle issues related to PS5 Pro performance.
A new Balanced graphics mode has been introduced that merges Quality mode settings (including ray tracing) with Performance mode resolution, targeting 40fps. This requires a display capable of achieving a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Performance mode has been fine-tuned for a smoother framerate, whereas ray tracing in both Quality and Balanced modes is expected to deliver a significantly clearer image. Perhaps more notably, there is now the option to disable the PS5 Pro’s PSSR entirely.
PSSR, short for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, is Sony’s AI upscaling technology, but it seems to be causing issues for some developers, including Medication. Bloober also appears to have encountered problems with it for its Silent Hill 2 remake.
The latest patch is available on PS5 as well as Xbox Series X/S and PC. On these different platforms, several minor fixes have been applied in addition to various optimizations.
Prior to the release of the PS5 Pro, Medication outlined the visual improvements the console would bring, although initially the results did not meet expectations. With this recent update, it is hoped the game now performs as intended.
