Affirm: Remastered Debuts on Xbox Amid Mixed Reactions
During Supreme week, we highlighted how The Thing: Remastered is speculated to arrive on Xbox consoles on December 5th, even though there hasn’t been an official announcement from the publisher. Interestingly, it has now launched and is available on the Xbox Store!
A few reviews also went live last night for The Thing: Remastered, and they are certainly intriguing to read. There is a great deal of enthusiasm expressed in these, but there are also some criticisms—we will share a few examples for you to check out below.
Shacknews (8/10)
“To be fair, The Thing was never flawless. It features some peculiar pacing in its gameplay and awkward dialogue that detracts from its scarier aspects, but those aspects remain enjoyable. With enhancements that resolve a significant issue in its design, The Thing: Remastered stands out as a fascinating addition to the horror genre, enhancing its overall value.”
Destructoid (5.5/10)
“Part of me wishes [Nightdive’s] efforts had been directed towards a more refined game, but the other part is glad I got to witness the chaotic experience that is The Thing. It may sound strange to suggest, ‘This is chaotic; you should definitely give it a try,’ but that’s exactly my point.”

Bloody Disgusting (4/5)
“Nightdive is recognized for its unfiltered approach to reviving classic titles, so I can understand their hesitation to make radical changes. Nevertheless, I believe there was room for several respectful enhancements that wouldn’t have compromised the original developers’ vision. Setting aside that criticism, this remains a superb overall package that’s bound to please fans of The Thing.
GameSpot (6/10)
“I applaud the studio for their accomplishments, but the technology limitations—and design restrictions—are even more evident now, even with nostalgia in mind. Nightdive has excelled at restoring this flawed yet captivating game, furthering its vital work in game preservation.”
Sports Illustrated (8/10)
“Nightdive has simply enhanced its appearance for modern displays, running at a dazzling frame rate, and updated the controls so they won’t frustrate today’s players. Impressive work. I hope Nightdive continues to adopt the designs of other game studios.”
Rock Paper Shotgun (Mixed)
“The Thing remains…
