Mysteries Unveiled: Adore a Dragon’s Developer Discusses the Enigmatic Nature of ‘Mission Century’
RGG, the studio responsible for the beloved Like a Dragon video game series, has two new titles in development, but it claims that none of us have successfully deduced what Project Century entails.
During my coverage of The Game Awards this year, everyone on the team thought Project Century appeared intriguing when it was unveiled. Set in Japan in 1915, it seems distinct from the Like a Dragon (often referred to as Yakuza) series, except for the fact that it is, evidently, a third-person action title.
We’ve all been speculating on its potential storyline, but Games Disclose reports (with translations from Automaton) that RGG studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama states that none of the fan theories are accurate.
Seemingly, the most popular theory posits that Project Century will explore the rise of the Tojo Clan, the adversaries featured in various Like a Dragon games. However, Yokoyama has dismissed this notion.
He also laid to rest the speculation that the lead character of Project Century was portrayed by Kazuki Kitamura, who played Kiryu in the live-action movie adaptation of Like a Dragon released in 2007. This will be an entirely new character created specifically for this game.
Nonetheless, fans have been scouring the TGA trailer in search of hints regarding the game, but it seems we may not uncover much through that approach. “We didn’t provide any details that would assist individuals in guessing,” Yokoyama remarks.
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see for more clarity. In addition to Project Century, RGG is also developing a new Virtua Fighter title.
