Former Inexperienced Lantern performer Aaron Pierre has applauded the “wonderful vibe” surrounding the forthcoming HBO series Lanterns ahead of his appearance in James Gunn‘s expanding DCU.

“We are still in the early stages of the Lanterns project and the DC/HBO partnership. However, what I can share is that everyone involved is truly exceptional in their respective domains,” Pierre informed GamesRadar+ during promotional activities for Mufasa: The Lion King, where he lends his voice to the former king of Pride Rock.

“Everyone is deeply committed and aspires for this to be the absolute best version of itself, not only for us as a team sharing the tale, but for the audience as well. This character is cherished by many, and there’s such a wonderful vibe surrounding the endeavor; we certainly want to excel – and more. We are eagerly anticipating diving into work. I’m in preparation mode right now and genuinely looking forward to getting started.”

First introduced as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU Chapter One lineup in 2023, the True Detective-inspired Lanterns will focus on “newcomer John Stewart and Lantern veteran Hal Jordan, two cosmic officers entangled in a sinister, Earth-centered enigma as they probe a murder in the heartland of America.”

Aaron Pierre will be accompanied in Lantern duties by Kyle Chandler portraying Hal Jordan. Kelly Macdonald is also part of the cast. True Detective: Night Country’s Chris Mundy will serve as showrunner and creator, while Tom King and Damon Lindelof will contribute as writers and executive producers.

The DCU has commenced with the engaging Max series Creature Commandos. It is set to debut live in 2025 with Superman and a new teaser has confirmed that a trailer is on the way. Meanwhile, Mufasa: The Lion King will arrive in theaters on December 20.
