A New Chapter in Horror: Another Resident Evil Movie Reboot Is On the Horizon
Barbarian filmmaker Zach Cregger is allegedly associated with a project, produced by Constantin Film and PlayStation Productions
A cinematic reboot of Resident Evil is currently in development, with four studios reportedly competing for the film, including Warner Bros. and Netflix.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zach Cregger is set to direct following the positive reception of his 2022 directorial debut, Barbarian, a horror film he also penned.
Constantin Film is said to be producing the movie in collaboration with PlayStation Productions. Constantin Film has possessed the film rights to the Capcom franchise since the late 1990s and was responsible for the original film series featuring Milla Jovovich.
Sources indicate that Cregger’s reboot is intended to be “a reimagining that will return the title to its horror foundations and align more closely with the original games, which originated in 1996.”
