Rumour: Dead Rising PS5 Sequel Will See Frank West Confront a Mad Director in Hollywood 1

Capcom aims to sustain the Dead Rising series with a new sequel located in Hollywood, as per a report from the increasingly dependable MP1st.

The website asserts that the game has been under development since 2023 with the working title ‘Rec,’ and will depict the comeback of protagonist Frank West in a storyline taking place after the events of the initial game.

This is significant since the publisher recently revitalized the original for the PS5, providing fans with a solid entry point.

The game is reported to occur on a film lot in Hollywood, which seems like a lot of enjoyment given that various “themes” and “sets” can be crammed into a compact space.

West will, reportedly, face off against a deranged film director aiming to create the ultimate movie. Various actors and extras will be among the survivors on set.

It appears that the sequel will preserve the series’ roguelike-like gameplay, which aligns with the current popularity of the genre.

When Dead Rising initially launched on the Xbox 360 in 2006, audiences were less acquainted with the style, so its time constraints and focus on repetition and runs didn’t resonate with everyone. However, in this post-Hades and Returnal environment, players generally possess a broader appreciation for this gameplay format.

MP1st does not speculate on a release timeframe but suggests it may still be some distance away. This is reasonable as Capcom has titles like Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem forthcoming in the near term, along with various other remakes and remasters rumored beyond that.

We might be looking at a PS6 title here, although we are quite confident that whatever Capcom decides to release will be cross-gen and also available on the PS5.
