More than 14 years have now elapsed since Bethesda Game Studios unveiled its iconic Elder Scrolls masterpiece, Skyrim, yet enthusiasts are still discovering innovative methods to revel in the acclaimed RPG in 2025 – which includes performing their real-world occupations within Tamriel, it seems.

After what he describes as “the least favorable idea I’ve ever conceived,” YouTuber habie147 – recognized for his humorous and frequently chaotic VR compilations – achieves the seemingly impossible (or, at least what one might presume to be) and conducts his regular 9-5 job from inside Skyrim. As he articulates, “Working from home transformed into working from Whiterun” for him. But how did he accomplish this? The initial step entailed selecting the ideal location, of course.

Can I work my 9-5 Job from Inside Skyrim – YouTube

“There are no office structures in Skyrim,” after all, but there are numerous pleasant campsites to work from while soaking in the ambiance of Tamriel. Once he settles into one, habie147 opens what seems to be a web browser tab – complete with work email, Slack, and the like – and describes his “main quest” while operating from inside Skyrim: to avoid termination, schedule marketing correspondence, engage in “random QuickBooks antics,” finalize a PowerPoint, and “collect contact details.”

All proceeds well until a bandit appears. “The robbery wasn’t preferable, but aside from that, it is an excellent place to work.” For his next outdoor workspace, habie147 opts for… the center of a creek, with an actual dragon soaring overhead. “So,” he notes, “I thought, alright, I need to find a location where nothing random can spawn. Something completely off the grid. And I concluded that the perfect spot for that would be underground.”

He journeys to my favorite location then: Blackreach. For a period, everything proceeds seamlessly – in truth, it continues well for several hours. “I gathered 55 email addresses. I completed my PowerPoint presentation. I communicated with my colleagues about various topics. The ancient dwarves of Skyrim left behind the finest huddle room imaginable.” However, as is expected with the ambient sounds, “after two hours down there, I did begin to lose my sanity.”

The YouTuber’s following destination is the summit of a mountain, where he utilizes console commands to alter the weather for a magnificent starry sky adorned by the aurora borealis. He takes a few phone calls and determines, “This works.” In other words, working within a VR game – in this instance, Skyrim – functions, and it’s rather excellent… if it weren’t for the headset component. “If VR headsets weren’t like mini Xbox 360s affixed to our faces, I genuinely believe everyone would do this.”

I share habie147’s sentiments, truly. I would sincerely adore working my own 9-5 while relaxing in The Bannered Mare or unwinding at the Evergreen Grove – but I do think the headset would become somewhat bothersome… and perhaps a little sweaty, too.

Elder Scrolls 6 enthusiasts yearn for updates as Skyrim reaches 14 years, only to hear Todd Howard state it’s “still far off” despite being announced 7 years earlier: “Bethesda has kept us in suspense”

After dedicating years exploring various fantastical realms, Anna studied English Literature followed by Medieval History at the University of Edinburgh, then focused on narrative design and video game journalism as a writer. She has contributed to numerous publications since completing her postgraduate studies, including Dexerto, Fanbyte, GameSpot, IGN, PCGamesN, and others. When she’s not busily arranging words into coherent expressions, she’s likely daydreaming of becoming a fairy druid and befriending all wildlife or spending countless (more) hours journeying through the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you encounter her away from her computer, you’ll invariably discover Anna with a fantasy novel, a handheld gaming device of some kind, and a Tamagotchi or two at her side.
