By It’s not December yet, but these listings are beginning early!
As we near the conclusion of December, we’re entering that period where everyone will begin releasing their “Best Of” and “Game of the Year” compilations in the upcoming weeks, with some media already sharing theirs.
Take the Associated Press for instance. The large international news agency has today showcased its top 10 video game launches of 2025, and notably, there are three Xbox first-party titles included.
As far as I am aware, this isn’t a ranked compilation, so The Outer Worlds 2, South of Midnight, and Avowed are all candidates for Game of the Year in the AP’s perspective. That being said, they have particular admiration for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Here are the AP’s top 10 beloved new games of 2025:
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
- The Outer Worlds 2
- Silent Hill F
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Donkey Kong Bananza
- The Séance of Blake Manor
- Avowed
- Ghost of Yōtei
- South of Midnight
- The Alters
As you can observe, this is an intriguing selection – it features The Alters and The Séance of Blake Manor, which is wonderful to see, but there’s no spot for titles like Split Fiction or Hollow Knight: Silksong.
On the other hand, we were just mentioning last week how we believed South of Midnight warranted more Game Awards nominations, and it is definitely pleasing to see multiple Xbox Game Studios titles in the lineup here.
