Hulu’s program featuring Kim Kardashian, All’s Fair, has been extended for a second season. This continuation comes as somewhat unexpected since the series premiered with a 0% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, which has since risen to 3%, resulting in a collection of clips that went viral for being, quite frankly, dreadful. Is this an instance of a show effectively managing to captivate viewers, or is it merely another example of what I term the “Morbius effect?”
What exactly is the Morbius effect, you inquire? Well, back in 2022, Sony‘s Jared Leto-led superhero failure Morbius had a particularly dismal performance during its initial theatrical release. Nevertheless, the studio notoriously misinterpreted the film’s status as a meme to mock on social media as some form of positive public reaction, probably envisioning it as a “midnight movie” option, even re-releasing the movie to an even worse reception.

A multitude of viewers was ironically drawn to the series by particularly absurd clips that gained traction on social media, seemingly assisting All’s Fair in debuting at the top of Hulu’s charts, with the streaming service announcing the show as its most-viewed scripted TV premiere in three years, as reported by THR.
However, this does not overlook a genuine audience for All’s Fair, which has definitely attracted viewers who are here for this notably extreme representation of creator Ryan Murphy’s typically campy, extravagant style, as the RT audience score has reached 66%.
On a personal note, I bypassed the series. Kardashian’s appearance in American Horror Story was, let’s just say, not to my taste. Moreover, Murphy’s other recent production, Monster: The Ed Gein Story, combined reality and fiction so recklessly that I deemed it nearly irresponsible.
Will All’s Fair soar in season 2? Or is this a scenario where Hulu is confusing a collection of meme-worthy clips with constructive feedback and popularity? We won’t ascertain the answer until season 2 actually materializes (whenever that may be), but perhaps the show will cultivate a sincere audience as it progresses.
