The television adaptation of the iconic PlayStation franchise Twisted Metal has received renewal for a third season by Peacock, Variety reports. The source additionally indicates that David Reed will step in as showrunner, succeeding Michael Jonathon Smith.

According to Variety, Reed will come on board as showrunner and executive producer for the third season of Twisted Metal as part of an agreement with Sony Pictures Television. In the past, Reed has worked as a writer for The Boys, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and The Magicians.

Though we were unable to review the second season, it has performed sufficiently to receive approval for a third set of episodes. In our assessment of the first season, we remarked that the “show functions – depending on your taste for cheesy, over-the-top grindhouse gore. This is a whimsical, extravagant slice of car crash television – yet in spite of a flimsy narrative and an unsatisfactory ending, we found enjoyment overall.”
