Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare enthusiasts will soon be back in action as Rockstar Games recently revealed they are bringing back John Marston’s adventure on Switch 2 and various other platforms this December.

While the revelation already had many cowboys celebrating, if you overlooked it, Rockstar Games has also verified that this will be an entirely complimentary upgrade for current owners. This applies to those who already own Red Dead Redemption on the Switch as well as existing PlayStation and Xbox owners.

You will even have the chance to continue from where you stopped. Here are the complete details from Rockstar’s formal announcement:

“Current owners on PS4, Nintendo Switch, or the digital backward compatible variant on Xbox One will be able to upgrade digitally at no cost. Anyone who possesses the PS4 version can make use of previous PS4 save data to resume from where they halted, and Switch 2 players can carry on with their previous save data from the earlier Nintendo Switch console.”

Therefore, if you already hold the Switch version, you can upgrade your copy when this enhancement launches on 2nd December 2025.

The Switch 2 version will come loaded with the “complete single-player experiences of both titles, along with bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition”. Furthermore, it boasts support for DLSS, HDR, mouse controls, and “the same smooth 60 frames per second gameplay at high resolution”.

In other news, the speculation regarding Red Dead Redemption 2 potentially arriving on the Switch 2 has also resurfaced this week following the latest announcement – with the same podcaster and YouTuber ‘NateTheHate’ asserting it’s still in the works.
