Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s Single Player Campaign Is Being Torn Apart

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launches today, 14th November 2025, and gamers are dissatisfied, with its campaign being a notably contentious topic.
Numerous issues fans are encountering with the solo player narrative are technical in nature, primarily associated with the game’s perpetually online aspect.
For instance, even when playing alone, you cannot pause the campaign at any time. Worse still, there seems to be no checkpoints whatsoever, which means you must restart a mission if you exit.
Compounding this is the fact that updates to the game will disrupt the campaign, compelling you to install them before resuming play.

Some gamers are also expressing dissatisfaction with the absence of AI allies; the narrative revolves around a band of soldiers that players can command during co-op play, but if you’re going solo, those characters will simply not be present to assist.
It has also been noted that, even when playing alone, you are required to enter the game’s online lobbies, among other things, to access the campaign.
The campaign itself is likewise facing criticism. Activision has been transparent about the game’s story delving into more surreal realms, yet players are not particularly pleased with certain missions and content.
We won’t disclose them directly here for spoiler reasons, but some noteworthy clips circulating on social media are garnering significant attention.
Many Call of Duty enthusiasts are unhappy with the campaign’s trajectory, though this is obviously a more subjective matter than the previously mentioned online concerns.
That’s not where it ends either; some players claim to have identified instances of AI-generated visuals throughout the game, particularly in calling cards.
While we can’t definitively assert it’s AI art, Call of Duty has previously been found using such techniques, featuring six-fingered zombies and so on.
No matter how you slice it, Black Ops 7’s campaign has not been received well at all.
Our review of the game is forthcoming, but in the meantime, what are your opinions on the game to date? Have you had a chance to play it? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
