Poll: Have You Had Issues With The Ethernet Port On Switch 2’s Dock?
Since the unveiling of the OLED variant, an Ethernet port has been integrated into the dock of Nintendo’s premier Switch, and that persisted this year with Switch 2. If you’re seeking the quickest download speeds or engage in competitive online gaming while linked to your television, you might find it advantageous to connect your dock directly to your router.
Nonetheless, since its debut in June, we’ve encountered reports of users facing difficulties with wired internet connections. Some attribute the issue to the Realtek port, while others suspect a distinct firmware or software error, or a USB-C handshake complication where something intermittently falters. Regardless of the cause, there appears to be a segment for which Switch 2’s Ethernet port simply isn’t operating correctly.
Inquiring within the NL office yields blank stares, (un)fortunately. Either a wireless connection suffices and we have never attempted to connect the dock via wire, or we just haven’t faced any complications.
However, our forums and the broader internet is brimming with individuals who have encountered difficulties. Some have returned their docks to Nintendo with varying levels of success; others have discovered that connecting their phones through a USB cable somehow resets the chip and managed to restore their Ethernet temporarily.
Naturally, Nintendo has its error codes and associated pages, but assuming that trying a different Ethernet cable does not resolve your issue, submitting a report ticket to Nintendo is the sole option they provide.
Clearly, this predicament will be exasperating if it affects you, but we’re eager to gauge how many individuals this concerns. As with any electronic gadget, there will be a proportion of failures or production defects that arise requiring attention, and with 10.36 million users (and rising) acquiring a Switch 2 in the initial months, some malfunctioning units are inevitable – but how prevalent is this issue?
Inform us in the poll below if you’ve encountered any problems with a wired internet connection – and if / how you addressed the situation.
