It’s Official, Red Dead Redemption Is Coming To Switch 2 This December
Update []: Well, that was swift, wasn’t it?
Rockstar Games has affirmed that Red Dead Redemption, along with Undead Nightmare, is arriving on the Switch 2 very shortly — on 2nd December 2025.
Moreover, if you already possess the game on Switch, you’ll have the opportunity to upgrade your edition for no charge and transfer your save progress. The Switch 2 version will offer support for DLSS, HDR, mouse navigation, and 60fps.
Not too shabby, right?
Original Story: Following Red Dead Redemption‘s launch for the Switch in 2023, a recent ESRB rating suggests that the game might soon be getting a dedicated Switch 2 version.
As outlined on the ESRB website, Red Dead Redemption has been rated for the PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch 2. The descriptive text understandably specifies the type of content that justifies the ‘Mature 17+’ rating, which includes “Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs”.
We’re unsure of the enhancements that may be provided on the Switch 2, but we anticipate stable 60fps gameplay along with a significant increase in resolution in both docked and handheld modes. Perhaps the multiplayer mode, which was removed from the Switch version, will be reinstated here.
In our review for the Switch version, we gave it a rating of 8/10 and mentioned that Red Dead Redemption is “an outstanding classic successfully ported to Switch and, if you can fork out the money, you’ll have a fantastic experience here despite the lack of extra care”.
Speculations have been floating around for some time to suggest that Red Dead Redemption 2 might also get a Switch 2 launch, but there has been no official announcement yet. The sequel / prequel initially debuted in 2018 to widespread acclaim, allowing players to embody the character of gang member Arthur Morgan.
In the meantime, Rockstar Games’ GTA VI has faced another delay, with the much-anticipated title now set to release on 19th November 2026.
