Project Scout makes a comeback

Ubisoft seems unable to resist pursuing that treasure at the end of the live service spectrum.
Based on a stream of recent leaks, the publisher is still developing a new multiplayer shooter with sci-fi elements — a venture that was revealed earlier this year.
This in-progress project is dubbed Project Scout, described as “large scale” and “competitive.” It’s also being developed using Unreal Engine 5.
Prior reports indicated it as a battle royale akin to Apex Legends, though that genre isn’t specifically referenced in the latest whispers.
Naturally, it’s challenging not to approach this with skepticism, given Ubisoft’s recent track record in the live service arena.
Their prior attempt at constructing a live service titan was the poorly named XDefiant, which was entirely shut down last summer, just over a year following its debut. Speculations regarding that game’s demise began circulating merely months after its comprehensive launch.
Additionally, there was the ill-fated Hyper Scape — though most of you probably can’t even recall that title at this stage, and we certainly don’t hold it against you.
As we are all aware, the live service market is ruthless — however, Ubisoft has had undeniable successes in the past, leading it to believe that new titles like Project Scout merit additional investment.
It’s simply hard to imagine the company reproducing the success of Rainbow Six: Siege or For Honor based on its current state.
Still, Project Scout has reportedly been in development for at least a couple of years now. We’re likely not far from a comprehensive unveiling.
What are your opinions on Ubisoft’s current direction? Do you think Project Scout has a chance, based on the information available so far? Feel free to express your thoughts in the comments section below.

Perhaps a bit too extensively, some might argue.
